Requiem for Beslan
On September 1, 2004, a group of armed terrorists seized control of the Beslan School Number One in North Ossetia, Russia, on the first day of the new school term. The terrorists forced over 1,200 children, parents and teachers into the school gymnasium which was rigged explosives. Two days later, a series of explosions within the school and the fierce firefight that ensued between Russian special forces, police, and the terrorists left over 350 people dead, more than half of them children.
