If found guilty, the 68 year old Der-Boghossian could face between 8-15 years in prison.However, IACAC has been working closely with local sources and senior Armenian prosecutors in the case, as well officials in the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan, to determine Der-Boghossian’s eligibility for indictment under the United States Protect Act of 2003 which regulates the activities of U.S. citizens when traveling abroad specifically with the intent of having sex with minors. The Protect Act of 2003 prohibits U.S. citizens and legal residents from illicit sexual conduct including commercial sex with anyone under 18, and non-commercial sex with persons under 16 when there is at least a four-year age difference or the person is under 12 years of age.
